Novak Djokovic has been crowned BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the year for 2011.

The Serb won three of the four grand slams in 2011 as he left Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal trailing in his wake to take the number one spot in the world.

His victories included beating Andy Murray in the final of the Australian Open and seeing off Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon and in the US Open.

Fans enjoying hospitality packages at Wimbledon in 2012 may be keen to see if Djokovic can repeat such feats, or whether Murray can go from being the nearly man to a grand slam winner.

Collecting his award, Djokovic commented: "Looking back on last year, I won three grand slams - who knows, maybe next year I will go for all four!"

The one grand slam Djokovic did not win was the French Open, where king of clay Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer in the final.
