ODI tickets news: Andrew Strauss retains 50-over captaincy
08/06/2010
Andrew Strauss will captain England in matches watched by fans with ODI tickets this summer.
Speculation had been rife that following England's World Twenty20 triumph in the Caribbean last month, Paul Collingwood, the leader in the shortest form of the game, would be given control of the 50-over side.
But Andy Flower, the team's head coach, has refuted this idea and stated that the opening batsman would remain as ODI captain for the foreseeable future.
According to Flower, Strauss's form in front of fans with ODI tickets has been crucial to the success enjoyed by the side over the past year.
"He is a fine leader and a fine batsman," the Zimbabwean said. "He has been the architect of the attacking type of cricket England's one-day side has been playing."
Strauss has started 99 ODI matches for England, amassing 2,886 runs at an average of 32.06. He has struck three centuries and has a top score of 152.
