An athlete hoping to make the British team for the 2012 London Olympics has turned to eBay to find a sponsor.

James Ellington describes himself as "the country's only top sprinter without a sponsor" and is seeking at least £30,000 to provide living costs and practical expenses.

If the bid brings in a sponsor willing to meet or beat this price, the runner will wear their name on his kit "at all appropriate opportunities from the end of the auction until the climax of the 2012 London Olympic Games".

Fans enjoying Olympic hospitality packages next year may be keen to see Ellington run in his home city if his plans come to fruition.

The runner's best time for the 100 metres is 10.23 seconds (or 10.12 wind assisted), while his fastest for 200 metres is 20.52 seconds.

Ellington was a member of the gold medal-winning British European Team Championships 4x100 metres sprint relay team this year, where he ran the third leg.
