Padraig Harrington defends form ahead of Ryder Cup

Padraig Harrington has hit out at suggestions that he should pass up on the chance to play in front of fans with Ryder Cup corporate tickets due to his disappointing recent form.

Harrington, who will take part in the Irish Open this weekend in a bid to boost his chances of qualifying for October's clash with the US, said there is no way he would pull out of the contest for this reason.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Irishman pointed out his form has not been as poor as some of his critics have claimed.

"I've had more top tens in the last year than I've ever had in my career. So going on a guideline that most people use, I've actually had the best year of my career," he commented.

Harrington is still in the hunt for a place to play in front of enthusiasts with Ryder Cup corporate tickets, although he faces stiff competition from the likes of Justin Rose.

Rose recently told the Sun that the tournament is his "big target" for the coming months.
