England's next Test cricket opponents Pakistan have moved into a strong position in the second Test of their current series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

After winning the first Test by an innings, the tourists faced stronger resistance in the Bangladeshi first innings as the hosts recovered from 43-4 to make 338.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was the star with 144, backed up by 97 from Shariar Nafees.

However, at the end of day three the tourists were on 292-3, just 46 behind and in a position to build a substantial lead before hunting down a victory.

Taufeeq Umar led the way with 130, supported by Azhar Ali (57) and Younis Khan (48 not out).

Fans planning to enjoy corporate hospitality at next summer's first Test series - including England against the West Indies at Edgbaston - will be hoping Andrew Strauss's men can overcome the challenge of Pakistan this winter, as well as that of Sri Lanka.

England's last away series against Pakistan in 2005 finished in a 2-0 defeat, but due to security issues the two will be meeting on neutral soil in the UAE this time.
