Paul Collingwood calls for English aggression
21/06/2010
Paul Collingwood has said aggression will be the key to England's success over Australia in matches watched by people with ODI tickets this summer.
The two sides meet each other in five 50-over matches across the next fortnight, the first of which gets underway at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire tomorrow (June 22nd 2010).
Speaking ahead of the clash, Collingwood called on his team-mates to invoke the spirit of the 2005 team which famously won the Ashes that year - a victory which was preceded by the destruction of the Aussies in a Twenty20 match at the same venue.
In that match, the Poms smashed 179 from their 20 overs before skittling their opponents out for just 79, with Collie himself hitting 46 runs and taking two wickets.
He said England must show the same intensity if they are to triumph in front of fans with ODI tickets in the upcoming series.
"You've got to go hard at them," the Durham star said. "The 2005 series was a prime example because we had a lot of skill but also went hard at them and we'll continue to do that."
