Rafael Nadal 'can surpass Federer's Slam record'
24/09/2010
Rafael Nadal may one day take to the court in front of fans with Wimbledon VIP tickets having broken Roger Federer's Grand Slam record.
Legend of the game and previous record-holder Pete Sampras said the 24-year-old Spaniard has the ability to overcome Federer's haul of 16 Majors, even though he is still lagging behind with seven after his recent victory at the US Open.
Speaking to reporters, Sampras remarked: "I think if he's smart with his schedule and the fact he has so many at such a young age, I think he could very well do it."
However, the man nicknamed Pistol Pete claimed a major stumbling block in the way of Nadal's pursuit of the record could be his physical fitness and whether his body can "handle the pounding".
Nadal announced earlier this week he will warm up for his 2011 appearance in front of people with Wimbledon VIP tickets by contesting the Aegon Championships at The Queen's Club.
