Rafael Nadal enjoyed an easy passage through the second round of the Australian Open as he beat German veteran Tommy Haas.

The current world number two beat the former number two 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena to ease into the third round, ensuring his suspect knee was not given too rigorous a work-out against the 33-year-old, who has reached three Melbourne semi-finals in the past.

Nadal attributed his success in the match partly to the way he started very well and hit his top form in the first seven games, adding: "You cannot expect [to] win easy against nobody and especially against Tommy Haas."

Fans enjoying Wimbledon hospitality packages this summer may hope they get to see Nadal at his very best.

Meanwhile, it was easier still for Roger Federer against his German opponent as Andreas Beck had to pull out of their second round match with a back injury.
