Rafael Nadal leads Spain to Davis Cup glory
06/12/2011
Rafael Nadal has helped Spain win the Davis Cup, beating Argentina 3-1 in the final.
The clay court final in Seville saw the world number two on his favourite surface, where he followed his opening day straight-sets victory over Juan Monaco with a trophy-clinching victory over Juan Martin Del Potro.
Del Potro had taken the first set 6-1, but this outstanding start was soon overcome as Nadal took the next three 6-4, 6-1, 7-6.
The other point Spain needed had come when Del Potro lost his first match in five sets against David Ferrer, with Argentina's one victory coming in the doubles match.
British fans may be keen to see if Nadal can get back to his best grass court form at Wimbledon next summer, having lost this year's final against Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic won that match 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, the first time Nadal had lost a grand slam final to anyone other than Roger Federer.
