Roger Federer back to winning ways
08/11/2011
Roger Federer has defeated Japan's Kei Nishikori in straight sets to win the Swiss Indoors tournament for a fifth time.
The Basel-born player secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory in his hometown tournament, with Nishikori only taking six points off the former world number one.
Federer has slipped to fourth in the ATP World Tour rankings after being overtaken by Andy Murray last month and those enjoying corporate hospitality at Wimbledon's Gatsby Club next year may be hoping he returns to his best for a tournament he has won six times, but has not reached the final in since 2008.
Murray's jump into third was prompted by a hat-trick of tour titles in the Fra East las month.
The title win in Switzerland was Federer's 68th in his career and he described the victory as "a personal highlight".
Nishikori, who beat current world number one Novak Djokovic on the way to the final, qualified on a wildcard and said he would "love to" return in 2012.
