Roger Federer retains ATP Finals crown
28/11/2011
Roger Federer served notice of what tennis fans enjoying hospitality packages at Wimbledon next summer may enjoy as he retained his ATP Finals crown at London's O2 Arena, the sixth time he has taken the title.
The Swiss superstar defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 and returned to number three in the world, leapfrogging Andy Murray, who had recently overtaken him.
Such a response from Federer - who recently won the Swiss indoor title in Basle and the BNP Paris Masters - may suggest that turning 30 has done nothing to diminish his determination to stay among the very elite of players and this might be reflected at Wimbledon next summer.
Federer stated afterwards: "It's an amazing feeling. I know it's one of my greatest accomplishments."
Andy Murray could be among those concerned at the Swiss legend's return to form for more reasons than his ranking.
Two of the three grand slam final defeats the Scot has suffered have been at Federer's hands.
