Roger Federer, Serena Williams named as top seeds for Wimbledon

17/06/2010

Fans with Wimbledon tickets have learned that Roger Federer has been named as the top men's seed for the SW19 tournament, which starts on June 21st 2010.

The Swiss star has won the Wimbledon Championships six times and will be the favourite to make it seven after being awarded the seeding, despite the fact that he is currently ranked second in the world behind Spain's Rafael Nadal.

Nadal himself will be the second seed for the event, followed by Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Britain's Andy Murray, who will be hoping to overcome his patchy recent form by putting together a decent run in front of his home crowd.

Sam Querrey, the big-serving American who won last week's AEGEON Championships at Queen's Club, is the 18th seed.

On the ladies' side of the tournament, Serena Williams was given top position, ahead of her sister Venus.

People with Wimbledon tickets may recall that the Williams sisters met in last year's final, with Serena lifting the championship after winning the match 7-6, 6-2.
