Roger Federer 'still the best in the world'

28/09/2010

Roger Federer may feel he has a point to prove in front of tennis hospitality customers, but two of his fellow pros believe he is still the best player in the world.

Despite the fact that Rafael Nadal has won the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open and has moved to number one in the world this year, David Ferrer claimed the Swiss star may still have the edge.

"Rafa is probably the best player in the history of Spain. But in the world, at this moment - maybe it's Federer because he has more Grand Slams and more titles," he was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

His view is shared by Robin Soderling, who stated that while Nadal has won "so many" Majors at a young age, Federer is "still the best".

Despite these comments, Pete Sampras recently claimed the Spaniard is good enough to overhaul Federer's Grand Slam tally, provided he manages his schedule well.
