South Africa World Cup news: Darren Bent ruled out of Mexico clash
24/05/2010
Darren Bent's chances of making the South Africa World Cup have been dealt a major blow after the forward was ruled out of the warm-up match against Mexico.
The Sunderland striker will miss the May 24th 2010 warm-up match with a hamstring injury.
He was chosen in England boss Fabio Capello's 30-man squad for the South Africa World Cup, but is still thought by many to be the least likely of all the attackers to gain a place in the final 23.
The former Tottenham man would have hoped to push himself ahead of Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey or Peter Crouch in the pecking order with an impressive display in tonight's clash.
Instead, Bent will now be relying on the final friendly before the South Africa World Cup, which will see Capello's men take on Japan in Austria on May 30th.
The 26-year-old, who has been capped five times for England, has previously stated it "hurt like hell" when he missed out on selection for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
