South Africa World Cup news: England better equipped than Azzurri, says Ancelotti

12/04/2010

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes England have a better chance of achieving South Africa World Cup glory than his native Italy.

Despite the Azzurri's status as defending champions, having won the previous World Cup in Germany, the boss of the Stamford Bridge outfit said Fabio Capello's England are better equipped for success in South Africa this summer.

This is because the Italian national side is in a transitional period, whereas Ancelotti said the Three Lions are heading into the South Africa World Cup on the crest of a wave.

"They have players who play at a very high level and there are great expectations for the World Cup," he told Italy's Radio Anch'io lo sport. "In Italy the situation is different."

Ancelotti saw his Chelsea side strengthen their grip on the Premier League this weekend without even taking to the field.

Title rivals Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Blackburn Rovers, leaving the Blues one point clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.
