South Africa World Cup news: Fernando Torres dreaming of England v Spain final

21/04/2010

Fernando Torres has said his dream South Africa World Cup final would be a clash between Spain and England.

The Liverpool forward, who is hoping he will be able to prove his fitness before the tournament gets underway this summer, said the Three Lions have the second-strongest starting 11 in world football - behind only his native Spain.

He claimed England's chances of success at the South Africa World Cup hinge on the spine of the team - centre-backs Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, Steven Gerrard in midfield and Wayne Rooney up front.

The former Atletico Madrid man called Rooney one of the most in-form players in world football, alongside Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

"It's hard to see a weakness in the England team," he told the Express. "All they need to do now is break the mental barrier that going out at the quarter-final stage creates."

If Torres' perfect South Africa World Cup final comes to fruition, England fans will hope for a better result than the 2-0 defeat inflicted by Spain when the sides last met in February 2009.
