South Africa World Cup news: Ledley King certain to make England squad, says Redknapp

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has backed injury prone defender Ledley King to be on the plane with the England squad for the South Africa World Cup this summer.

Redknapp told the press that coach Fabio Capello kept asking about the footballer when he spoke with him a few weeks ago and suggested the form he showed in his team's recent 3-1 defeat against Manchester United puts him in good stead to be picked for his national side.

"He's a certainty to go to the World Cup," the Spurs boss remarked. "Look at how he played at Old Trafford, he was our best player."

King is not the only Tottenham star thought to be in with a strong chance of making the trip to the South Africa World Cup.

Michael Dawson has been touted as a contender for one of the two positions at the centre of defence, while Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch will also be hoping for a call-up.
