South Africa World Cup news: Zamora impresses as Capello watches on

25/03/2010

Bobby Zamora did his chances of featuring at the South Africa World Cup no harm by impressing in last night's (March 24th 2010) FA Cup replay between Fulham and Tottenham.

The striker opened the scoring for Fulham mid-way through the first half as England coach Fabio Capello watched on from the stands.

And although Fulham went on to slump to a 3-1 defeat after Spurs dominated the second 45 minutes, Capello is likely to have been impressed by the cool finishing displayed by the former West Ham man.

He struck after latching on to a Damien Duff through-ball before guiding the ball past Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomez to claim his 17th goal of the season.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp suggested that Zamora's good form could see him force his way into the South Africa World Cup squad ahead of the likes of Peter Crouch, Carlton Cole and Darren Bent.

"A lot can happen between now and the World Cup finals and I am sure Fabio Capello could not have failed to be impressed," he said.
