Steve Borthwick dealt autumn internationals blow
26/08/2010
Steve Borthwick's chances of playing in front of fans with England rugby union tickets in the autumn internationals look to have been dealt another blow.
The former captain was recently dropped from the Elite Players Squad and the Saxons, and his bid to win a recall to the national side for the forthcoming series may have been harmed by a torn quadriceps muscle.
He will miss club side Saracens' first two games of the new season as a result of the blow, including the Premiership double header against London Irish at Twickenham on September 4th 2010.
Borthwick will also be forced to sit out the home clash against Sale at Vicarage Road on September 12th.
Earlier this month, Lewis Moody - who took over the England captaincy during this summer's tour of Australia - backed Borthwick to make a speedy return to Martin Johnson's side.
The lock will have to be back to his best quickly, however, as the first autumn internationals fixture kicks off on November 6th against New Zealand.
