Test match tickets news: Shoaib Akhtar 'could be recalled for tour of England'

22/04/2010

Cricket fans with Test match tickets could see Shoaib Akhtar in action in Pakistan's tour of England this summer.

The controversial pace bowler has not played a Test for his country since December 2007, but Pakistan's chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan has said his strong domestic performances mean he may be included in the tour party.

Akhtar is the leading wicket-taker in Pakistan's domestic Pentangular Cup one-day tournament, having taken six for 52 against Peshawar yesterday (April 21st 2010).

"If he continues to play well regularly at the domestic and club level and proves his fitness and form, he could be considered for the English tour," Khan was quoted by the Times of India as saying.

The selector went on to state that Akhtar should be grateful to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for giving him the opportunity to win his place back and appear in front of fans with Test match tickets again.

He was banned by the PCB back in 2008 for publicly criticising its policies.
