Tiger Woods slips out of automatic Ryder Cup place

03/08/2010

Corey Pavin has been handed a selection headache regarding whether or not to choose Tiger Woods to play in front of golf enthusiasts with Ryder Cup packages.

Woods has now slipped out of an automatic qualification place for the clash between the US and Europe, which runs between October 1st and 3rd 2010 at the Celtic Manor Resort.

He is currently standing in ninth place on the list, with only the top eight being guaranteed a place in the tournament. Four more players are chosen as wild cards to play in front of fans with Ryder Cup packages by the team captain.

Previously, US captain Pavin has claimed that the star golfer would be handed a place on the team, regardless of whether or not he qualified.

"I'm not concerned about whether he'll make the team on points - it'll be fantastic, I want him on the team," he told BBC Sport.

However, at that time Woods was in seventh place in the Ryder Cup standings and Pavin expected him to have "no problem" qualifying automatically.
