Toby Flood 'should be fit for England v New Zealand clash'

10/09/2010

Rugby fans with Twickenham tickets for the England v New Zealand clash may get to see Toby Flood in action.

The Leicester Tigers fly-half was injured in his side's 27-19 defeat to Northampton last weekend, with initial fears suggesting that he could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, scans have a strained medial collateral ligament, rather than damage to his cruciate ligament, which means he should only be out of action for around six weeks.

The Leicester Mercury claimed the player has an outside chance of featuring in the Tigers' Heineken Cup fixture with Llanelli Scarlets on October 17th 2010, which would give him time to recover his form ahead of the November 6th England v New Zealand match.

England manager Martin Johnson will be hoping Flood is available for the fixtures, having made him his first choice stand-off on the summer tour of Australia.

The former Newcastle Falcons star has been capped 31 times, scoring 85 points in the process.
