Twenty20 tickets news: Graeme Swann could open batting, says Collingwood
21/04/2010
Graeme Swann could take on an even more important role in future England fixtures watched by fans with Twenty20 tickets, after Paul Collingwood backed him to open the batting.
The all-rounder has risen to prominence over the past couple of seasons as one of the world's best off-spinners and has so far taken 85 Test wickets in just 18 matches, at an average of less than 30.
While his star performances have tended to come with the ball, Swann has also contributed with the bat and has opened in most of his domestic matches watched by fans with Twenty20 tickets.
Collingwood admitted the selectors have considered pushing the Nottinghamshire star up the order for the forthcoming World Twenty20 in order to provide some much-needed impetus early on in the innings.
"An X-factor like that is a very good thing to have up your sleeve because the opposition may not know what is coming," he told the Mirror.
If Swann impresses in the role in the Caribbean, he could keep the position for future clashes watched by fans with Twenty20 tickets.
