Twenty20 tickets news: Kevin Pietersen helps England see off Sri Lanka
14/05/2010
Kevin Pietersen has shown his importance to England in matches watched by fans with Twenty20 tickets.
The aggressive South Africa-born star fired 42 runs from just 26 balls as Paul Collingwood's men eased past the dangerous Sri Lanka to reach the final of the World Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean.
Despite winning the toss and electing to bat, Sri Lanka were never able to get away from some tight England bowling, with only Tim Bresnan going at more than six runs an over.
Only Angelo Mathews found any momentum, striking 58 from 45 to guide his team to an under-par 128 from their 20 overs.
In response, England came out of the blocks running, with openers Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb sharing a stand of 68 for the first wicket.
Once Kieswetter departed courtesy of a Lasith Malinga yorker, Pietersen came to the crease and smashed three fours and two sixes to help England reach their target with four overs to spare.
Pietersen and co will now be waiting on the result of the Australia v Pakistan clash to learn the identity of their opponents in the final.
