Twickenham hospitality tickets: Johnson would quit 'for the good of the team'
06/04/2010
Martin Johnson has told rugby fans with Twickenham hospitality tickets he would resign as England manager if he felt it would benefit the team.
The former World Cup winner has had a tough start to his managerial career, with the England team roundly criticised for failing to spark in the 2009 autumn internationals and the recent Six Nations.
During his 19 matches at the helm, Johnson's England side have won just 38 per cent of matches and lost more than half - a record which is worse than each of his three predecessors, Brian Ashton, Andy Robinson and Sir Clive Woodward.
Both Ashton and Robinson were sacked after their 22nd games in charge, a milestone which Johnson would reach ahead of the 2010 autumn internationals in front of fans with Twickenham hospitality tickets.
"If I felt it would be the best thing for England then I'd walk," he told the Mail on Sunday. "If it's the right call to make a change, whether it be a coach or the manager, then Id make it."
