Twickenham tickets news: Is Alex Goode England's next fly-half?

20/04/2010

Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter has backed Alex Goode to play for England in front of fans with Twickenham tickets in the future.

Although Goode has often been used at full-back this season, Venter told the Telegraph he believes the 21-year-old's future lies at fly-half, a position which England boss Martin Johnson has been struggling to fill.

Regular incumbent Jonny Wilkinson has been out of form for some time and was eventually dropped for Toby Flood at the end of this year's Six Nations.

With Danny Cipriani - who many critics saw as England's long-term hope for the number ten role - having agreed a move to Australia, it could open the door for Goode to play on the international stage in front of fans with Twickenham tickets.

"Alex is going to play for England at fly-half," former South Africa star Venter asserted. "He is a really good full-back, but when he starts playing regularly at fly-half, you are going to see a magnificent fly-half."
