Twickenham tickets news: Simon Shaw hopes to make 2011 World Cup
16/04/2010
Simon Shaw is keen to play in front of fans with Twickenham tickets this season in a bid to stake his place for the 2011 World Cup.
The Wasps and England lock will turn 38 just eight days before the start of the tournament, which kicks off in September next year, but the veteran has revealed he still hopes to be in Martin Johnson's plans.
If he is to secure a spot in the squad, Shaw will need to show the England manager he can still cope with the tempo of international rugby, which means he will need to feature in future matches in front of fans with Twickenham tickets.
Speaking to ESPN Scrum, the 36-year old said: "If I manage to stay injury-free, the closer [the World Cup] gets the more interested I will be.
"At the start of next season, assuming I'm injury-free, it will certainly be a goal."
Shaw suffered an injury-hit Six Nations campaign earlier this year, missing the Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland after being forced off with a shoulder knock which he picked up against Ireland in front of fans with Twickenham tickets.
