World Cup 2010 news: Ledley King 'assured of place in South Africa'
27/04/2010
Ledley King has reportedly been told by Fabio Capello that he will be a part of England's World Cup 2010 squad if he can steer clear of injury.
Despite his ongoing injury problems which prevent him playing more than once a week for Tottenham, the centre-half has still appeared more times this season in the Premier League than England captain Rio Ferdinand.
Unnamed sources have told the Evening Standard that Three Lions boss Capello has assured King he will get his chance of an England recall at World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has also recently called for the 29-year-old to be picked for the international tournament, saying: "Ledley can play every six days and there are six days between games at the World Cup."
King's Tottenham team-mate Michael Dawson is also thought to have impressed Capello in the side's recent 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
Blues defender John Terry, who many pundits thought was a guaranteed starter at World Cup 2010, had a disappointing game, giving away a penalty and getting sent off.
