World Cup 2010 news: Ledley King not keen on holding midfield role
26/05/2010
England defender Ledley King has said that he is reluctant to play in midfield if Gareth Barry does not recover from an injury in time for World Cup 2010.
The Tottenham Hotspur star, who has performed in a defensive midfield position before, claimed that he is "not sure" about filling in for Barry as he is not as confident with playing further up the field as he once was.
"With not training, midfield is a different role, it is different on the body. I've got kind of used to playing at the back and adapting to certain movements. Midfield would be a totally different role so we will have to wait and see," King explained.
However, he suggested that he would give it a try if manager Fabio Capello called on him to stand in for the sidelined Manchester City player, who is suffering from ankle problems.
Peter Crouch recently backed King to be one of the stand-out defenders at World Cup 2010, claiming that he may prove to be one of the best in his position on the international stage.
