World Cup 2010 news: Scoring return for Ledley King

25/05/2010

Ledley King did his chances of making it into the final World Cup 2010 squad no harm by scoring on his return to international football.

The Tottenham centre-half marked his first England appearance in almost three years by opening the scoring in last night's (May 24th 2010) friendly against Mexico at Wembley, which Fabio Capello's men went on to win 3-1 despite looking uncomfortable at times.

Despite his injury worries, King played all 90 minutes of the match and declared after the match that his troublesome knee was "OK".

Although he got on the score sheet, the defender admitted the game had not been one of his better performances and praised Mexico's quality.

"They are a good side," the Spurs man said. "They move the ball quickly [and] they've got good movement."

He will be hoping to have convinced Capello to include him in the final 23-man squad for World Cup 2010, although England have one more warm-up match - against Japan - before the Italian makes his decision.
