World Test Championship 'to be staged in 2017'
15/11/2011
Cricket fans will not get the chance to see the World Test Championship final at Lords in 2013 as the tournament has been held back to 2017 instead.
International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat revealed the decision by the body was based on the heavy fixture schedules its member nations have committed themselves to.
"At the last board meeting we decided that the first opportunity that we can play the World Test Championship is at 2017," he stated.
However, those enjoying corporate hospitality at Lords will be able to see an Ashes Test match in 2013 and next year sees the home of cricket staging two Tests, against the West Indies and South Africa.
Commenting on the postponement of the championship, the Marylebone Cricket Club said it will be looking to find another major match to play at Lords in 2013 in addition to the Ashes Test and the one-day international involving England and New Zealand.
