Zaheer Abbas calls for selection of Mohammad Yousuf
09/08/2010
Mohammad Yousuf should be included in the starting XI for the next England v Pakistan Test match, Zaheer Abbas has argued.
Yousuf, who has an average of 53.07 from 88 Test matches, was drafted into the touring squad by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), only to be omitted from the side at the last minute for the second game of the series, at Edgbaston.
Abbas described the situation surrounding Yousuf's recall as "laughable", given that the veteran batsman retired from international cricket back in March and is technically still serving a ban imposed on him by the PCB.
Furthermore, Abbas questioned the logic of selecting the 35-year-old and then not playing him, stating: "I don't understand what Yousuf is doing in England.
"If the need was so urgent that they rushed him to England at a short notice, then he should have played in whatever condition he was in."
The third in the four-game England v Pakistan Test match series gets underway at the Brit Insurance Oval on August 18th 2010.
