Keith Prowse and Debrett’s launch etiquette guide

With the rugby season nearly upon us, Keith Prowse, recognised as the UK's first for hospitality, and etiquette experts Debrett's, are offering advice for best behaviour and successful socialising.
Competitive atmospheres, fine foods and wines, and the presence of famous England rugby players can all become bewildering. Follow our top etiquette tips to ensure you get it right:
- Socialise and join in. It’s a chance to get to know your colleagues away from the confines of the office.
- Dress appropriately. It’s work, after all, so look the part.
- Remember, you may know the players, but they won’t know you. Over-familiarity can be embarrassing.
- Keep sporting chat upbeat and positive, no matter who you support or the outcome of the game.
- Break the ice gently by kick-starting conversations with light-hearted topics.
- Ask questions! Let the other person know that you are interested in what they have to say, people love to talk about themselves and this will help those who are less confident relax.
- Be sure to talk to the guests both sides of where you are sitting. If you see someone who is not in conversation, try and bring them in to your conversation.
Jo Bryant, etiquette advisor for Debrett’s, said: “corporate hospitality is an extension of the office. Enjoy the day and have fun, but it is important to remain professional and well-mannered at all times.”
Keith Prowse is the official supplier for corporate hospitality to many of the world’s most iconic society events including Wimbledon, npower Ashes Series 2009, Cartier international Polo, Henley Royal Regatta and RBS Six Nations.
