Dethroning the Womens Wimbledon Champion

June 9, 2017
With her baby on the way, 23 time Grand Slam winner (6 time Wimbledon winner) Serena Williams will be watching the Championships from the sidelines this year, leaving Venus as the only Williams to fly the flag. This means competitors battling it out this year at The Championships, Wimbledon will feel there is more than half a chance to get their hands on the prize.

Comeback queen...
Venus may have been in her sister's shadow in recent years, but her form of late has proved this former champion still has what it takes, and without the prospect of an all Williams final (four times in the past, Serena winning three of those clashes), this could be the year she takes the crown again.  She’s a crowd favourite and has a weaponry of experience to match.

Tennis world number 1…
The new name at the top of the rankings is Germany's Angelique Kerber, leapfrogging the American with her consistent performances over a demanding tournament schedule. Kerber reached the final last year, but was overpowered by a determined Serena. The German has however proved she was no pushover (7–5, 6–3 Wimbledon 2016 final) and will be looking to capitalise on the absence of a rival, to become the first German to win the championship since 22 time Grand Slam winner Steffi Graf.

Best of the rest…
Britain’s Johanna Konta should have the home crowd advantage to push her into the later stages of the competition. Karolina Pliskova, will fancy her chances having provided stern competition over the last few years. The Czech number one is showing form at the right time, reaching the semi-final at Roland Garros. The other to keep an eye out for include two time Wimbledon winner, Petra Kvitova, 2015 Wimbledon runner up Garbine Muguruza & this year’s French Open quarter finalist Elina Svitolina.

Don’t miss out on the chance to witness history being written at the famous SW19.   Keith Prowse is an official hospitality agent providing tennis hospitality packages at Wimbledon.
