Keith Prowse is delighted to be partnering with Neom to scent our hospitality facilities this year at The Championships, Wimbledon. We caught up with Neom founder, Nicola Elliott, to talk about all things natural and her top natural product switches.
Q: Nicola, tell us more about why you started Neom.
A: We started Neom back in 2005 with the belief that (although it was tricky for us to produce in anything other than small batches) we could make the most beautiful products that were 100% natural and every bit as luxurious as other candles, washes and lotions in the stores.
Our secret is the essential oil blends we use, which give the products their therapeutic benefits. So not only does everything we make smell amazing, it all actually helps you feel great. Synthetic scent blends simply can’t do that.
We’re so excited to be scenting The Gatsby Club this year with our 100% natural Real Luxury diffusers, enhancing the luxurious hospitality experience and helping hospitality guests to feel their best.
Q: Why do natural products mean so much to you?
A: The average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body every day. In my book, that’s too high. I’m a realist, and I certainly don’t live a staunch green lifestyle, but I make the best choices for me and my family.
And I try to get the ‘chemical count’ of our household down in little ways all the time.
Q: Natural products are often hard to come by. How do you incorporate natural products into your lifestyle?
A: It’s getting MUCH easier to choose brands that offer more natural alternatives. There are some great options out there that mean you don’t have to compromise on efficacy or pay through the nose.
Q: What are you top natural product recommendations?
1. Think of how many times you wash your hands. The skin is the body’s largest organ and absorbs the most chemicals. Hand wash and lotion are obvious choices for going natural.
2. There are some great natural household cleaning brands in the supermarkets. There’s simply no reason to use chemicals in the home, spritzing the kitchen tops, washing all the families clothes, pots and pans. Making this swap has had a huge impact on my family.
3. Replace make up remover with grapeseed oil. You can buy it online or at the health food store. It’s cheap, natural, removes all dirt and grime - simple.
4. Many candles are made of paraffin wax, which are filled with synthetic scents. Paraffin is a by-product of crude oil and I don’t feel comfortable burning it in my home
