With just a few weeks until the third tennis grand slam of the year begins in South West London, this particular concoction provides a nod to our European neighbours and host of the recent Roland Garros championships in Paris, France.
St~Germain is a French liqueur made with fresh elderflowers, hand-picked once a year in the late spring and is the core ingredient in in a few cocktails that will be served in The Lawn this July.
Thanks to Keith Prowse’s ongoing agreement with Bacardi Brown-Forman, they will be stocking all the bars within The Lawn for the duration of The Championships. As such, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the St~Germain Wimbledon Spritz and other cocktails throughout the hospitality space, including the garden and its cabanas.
Introducing the St~Germain Wimbledon Spritz
Created especially for this year’s Afternoon Tea menu at The Lawn by our bar consultants from MIX Global, the St~Germain Wimbledon Spritz is a refreshing and succulent combination of St~Germain French elderflower liqueur, fresh English strawberries, cold-pressed lemon and lemon verbena tea. Served tall over ice with a long spritz of ice-cold soda and a sprig of fresh mint. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser. 6% ABV.
The Bittersweet Melody
Also available on the main cocktail menu showcasing the versatile nature of St~Germain Elderflower liqueur is the The Bittersweet Melody. This sophisticated hi-ball cocktail evokes the Belle Époque with a zesty yet complex combination of St~Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh grapefruit juice, and fresh lemon. Balanced with a bittersweet blend of French liqueurs and NOILLY PRAT Ambré vermouth. Finished with a splash of soda, orange zest and a micro bunch of fresh elderflowers. Santé! 9% ABV.
The name St~Germain is inspired by St~Germain-Des-Prés, an area of Paris influential in the Art Déco and Belle Époque movements of France and located less than five miles from the home of the French Open Championships either side of the River Seine.
Following the culmination of the clay court tournament at the start of June, the tennis circuit moves into the grass court season with Wimbledon being the obvious highlight at the start of July. This transition is inspired in the selection of this cocktail.
Despite its quintessentially English reputation, The Lawn has also been known for promoting the best in French-inspired cuisine, led by the Roux family, who have developed the menu for this particular hospitality experience, as they have done for years before (previously as The Gatsby Club).
We’re excited to be serving the St~Germain Wimbledon Spritz in The Lawn as part of an impressive line-up of cocktails.
If you would like to be there at The Championships this July, there is limited availability for tables at The Lawn, all of which can be booked on our website.
