125,000 flock to the Epsom Downs each year to celebrate the greatest Flat race in the world – the Investec Derby Festival. The quintessentially English event is known for the iconic Derby Day and the style on the downs, all set across the breathtaking vista of the Downs, this is a must-see event in the sporting calendar.
With less than 100 days to go till the event, it’s time to brush up on our Epsom general knowledge and learn some fun facts and figures.

If you’re new to the game of rugby, you might get a little confused about what’s actually going on. You might, for example, wonder why the game keeps stopping; whether there’s actually any difference between a ‘ruck’ and a ‘maul’; and what the heck a scrum is anyway?!
As someone who was – until recently – a rugby novice, I feel your pain. I’ve always enjoyed rugby but, now I understand it, I’ve become one of those slightly annoying people that refer to technical rugby terms in casual conversation.
And, once you’ve learnt it, the game is actually a lot simpler than you think.
There is nothing quite like watching the Investec Derby; hearing the thundering of hooves before horse and jockey gallop past; watching jockeys balancing precariously on their steeds, urging them on; hearing the roar of the crowd as the race whizzes by.
